The Thin end of the wedge

Canada has begun the slide to tyranny, and so-called "human rights commissions"  begin to prosecute thought crimes and free speech. Not even the national magazine, MacLeans is immune.

When correctly viewed, everything is lewd—Tom Lerer

It seemed a like a good idea. Stop hate by banning it. Force people to love one another by criminalizing nasty comments. Canada could do that in 1977, after all, they didn't have a bill of rights back then. (The bill was to try to stop housing discrimination, a completely laudetory goal)

But even with the Charter of rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution up there, in recent years, a group of totalitarian thugs have been using them to spread fear into the people of the great white north

IN the Tew York Timesand the Huffington Post have recently reported on this phenomenon, and the Canadian branch of the blogisphere have been bitching about it relentlessly.

Here's a quote from one of these people  "CHRC lead investigator Dean Steacy was asked ‘What value do you give freedom of speech when you investigate one of these complaints? — to which he replied ‘Freedom of speech is an American concept, so I don’t give it any value.’”

Let's here it for American concepts!...and mourn for Canada's fall.
