a demand for magic

Thu May 22, 2008 at 04:30:12 PM PDT

"She's going to wave her magic wand and the Superdelegate will give her the nominaion" isn't a strategy.

Back during the '80s, a group called ACT UP started having marches in various places around the country and the world. They were demanding that AIDS be cured IMMEDIATLY. Not that more research be done, not that more money be spent on said reserch, but an immediate cure. Right then and there. In other words, they were demanding magic.

Jerry Lewis has been fighting Muscular Dystrophy for decades and we're only slightly closer to a cure now than in 1950. ACT UP knew this, but still, they didn't care.

I am not defending AIDS, goodness knows, and I'm not attacking Gay people, goodness knows, but, I'm just demonstrating how desperation can lead to stupidity. Hillary Clinton and her supporters are demanding magic just like ACT UP did thirty years ago.

Abracadabra! "Hillary will win ALL the remaining primaries" "Hocus Pocus! They will honor the voters and give Hillary all the delegates from Michigan and Florida."
Presto! "Hillary has more votes than Obama."

Giving Michgan and Flordia delegations exactly as the nonbinding straw polls will break the power of the Democratic National Committee, it will cause chaos in 2012. The people on the rules committee know this, and what Clinton is doing is an insult to them and everyone else who believes in following the rules.

Also, it makes them look dumb.

Magic is an illusion. It doesn't work.
